lyrics

Sometimes they sit by a roaring fire,
and let Andrew B. play some tunes.
One said he learns his songs from a Bird in a Cage,
another said that's undoubtedly true.

He can sing from a busy place,
like Pulaski or New York,
or he can sing without his words in the woods,
that doesn't change if he's been heard.

And I can't believe, we'd return to the city without a sound that's pure.
Better to leave my wiles at the shoreline and to find a song that sounds like Her and sounds like what I've heard.

(brass break)

At night he sits in his lonely tower
waiting to take down verse.
The melody is none of his concern;
he knows that his Bird will soon return.

He can sing from a quiet place,
like his chapel, or by the brook.
Or he can sing in a bumping Mass,
that doesn't change if he's been heard

And I'm not the one to create resonance--a sound that's pure.
Better to leave my wiles at the shoreline and to find a song that sounds like Her and sounds like what I've heard.

(mournful trombone solo)
